Kangana Ranaut fumes at Deepika Padukone over contentious TikTok video

Deepika Padukone is now facing the wrath of fellow industry insider Kangana Ranaut as well

Deepika Padukone has been at the receiving end of ample backlash across social media after her video — where she challenged a TikTok influencer to recreate her Chhapaak look — went viral.

The 34-year-old Padmaavat actor is now facing the wrath of fellow industry insider Kangana Ranaut as well who addressed the controversial video in an interview with India Today.

“Rangoli is an acid attack survivor and she was very hurt seeing the video. Sometimes, marketing teams tend to go overboard with their promotions, and I am sure Deepika must be having some explanation for this,” she said.

“The people who are hurt like my sister should be apologised to. This is not a make-up look and nobody should try and achieve it. That kind of insensitivity should be apologised for and there is no harm in doing that because we all make mistakes," she added.

Deepika has been receiving backlash from the netizens since her video came to the surface.

The Bollywood diva has been had earlier been tangled in another controversy after joined the protests at Jawaharlal Nehru University to express solidarity with students.

CM Murad recommends three names to PM Imran for Sindh IGP

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday requested Prime Minister Imran Khan to appoint the new Inspector General of Sindh Police just like it was done in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, reported Geo  News.

In a letter to the PM, the chief minister also attached the provincial cabinet’s recommendations of the officers that should be considered to become the province’s next top cop.

He stated in the letter that the provincial government has followed the procedure that the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments adopted while requesting a change in their top cops.

“I request your direction to Establishment Division for placing services of one of the officers named in the letter as Inspector General of Police, Sindh, as was done in the case of Punjab and KP province recently,” Shah wrote  to the PM.

The Sindh cabinet had on Monday recommended two grade 21 officers and a grade 22 officer for the coveted post. The cabinet approved the names of Ghulam Qadir Thebo and Kamran Fazal, who are grade-21 officers, and Mushtaq Mahar who is a grade-22 officer.

Earlier this month, the provincial authorities had written a letter to the Establishment Division asking for the removal of Sindh IGP Kaleem Imam and the appointment of another police officer in his place.

The federal government on Saturday had said it was considering a request by the Sindh government to remove IGP Imam from office over "unsatisfactory performance".

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which is in opposition in Sindh, had subsequently said it would challenge the removal of Imam in court. On Monday, a group of citizens had challenged the provincial cabinet’s decision to change the Sindh IGP in the Sindh High Court.

The court had remarked that the province's Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kaleem Imam, would stay on his position until the Establishment Division decides to remove him from the office.

Historic Trump impeachment trial to begin in earnest

WASHINGTON: Washington, Jan 21, 2020 (AFP) -President Donald Trump's historic impeachment trial begins in earnest on Tuesday in the Senate, with Democrats calling for his removal from office and Republicans determined to acquit him — and quickly, if possible.

Four months after the Ukraine scandal exploded and went on to overshadow the end of Trump's term, and 10 months before Americans go to the polls to decide whether to re-elect him, the 100 members of the Senate will gather at 1 PM (1800 GMT) with chief justice John Roberts presiding over the trial.

The job of these lawmakers, sworn in last week as jurors, is to decide if Trump abused his office and obstructed Congress as charged in two articles of impeachment approved last month by the House of Representatives.

They state that Trump tried to pressure Ukraine into interfering in the 2020 US election to help him win, and then tried to thwart a congressional probe of his behavior.

It will be only the third time a president has endured an impeachment trial, after Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1999.

Part of the scandal centers on a July 25 telephone call in which Trump pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to announce an investigation of former Vice President Joe Biden, Trump's potential opponent in the November vote.

Democrats, who control the House of Representatives and led the investigation, accuse Trump of manipulating Ukraine by withholding nearly $400 million in military aid for its war against Russian-backed separatists and a White House meeting for Zelensky until the latter announced a Biden probe.

'Nothing wrong'

"The president did nothing wrong," Trump's lawyers responded in a 110-page brief submitted to the Senate on Monday.

This echoes the repeated assertions of the 73-year-old real estate magnate that the saga is a political witch hunt and a hoax, and that his phone call with the Ukrainian leader was "perfect."

In the president's brief, his 12-man legal team contested the very idea of his impeachment.

They called the two articles of impeachment — approved largely along party lines in the Democratic-controlled House — the product of "a rigged process" and "constitutionally deficient on their face" because they involved no violation of established law.

That team, which has recruited high profile lawyers such as Kenneth Starr, who tried to bring down Clinton over his affair with Monica Lewinsky, said in the brief, "The Senate should reject the Articles of Impeachment and acquit the president immediately."

'Worst nightmare'

"President Trump abused the power of his office to solicit foreign interference in our elections for his own personal political gain, thereby jeopardizing our national security, the integrity of our elections, and our democracy," the House managers said Saturday in a memorandum.

They said the president's behavior "is the Framers' worst nightmare," referring to the authors of the US Constitution, and that Trump deserves to be removed from office.

But Trump looks almost certain to be acquitted because of the 53-47 Republican majority in the Senate.

He will be abroad as his trial opens; Trump left late Monday for the economic forum in Davos, Switzerland.

How long the trial will last is up in the air.

The first order of business on Tuesday will be to set the rules, such as how long they will hear the arguments of the House managers, or prosecutors; how long they will hear the defense; the time allotted for questions, submitted by the senators but read by Roberts; and whether they will call witnesses or seek other evidence.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell late Monday proposed rules calling for each side to have 24 hours over two days to present their arguments. That makes for long trial days stretching late into the night but is a significantly quicker pace than in Bill Clinton's impeachment trial in 1999. The chamber will debate and vote on the proposed rules Tuesday.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said McConnell is rushing the trial and also making it harder for witnesses and documents to be presented.

"On something as important as impeachment, Senator McConnell´s resolution is nothing short of a national disgrace," Schumer said in a statement.

The Democrats want key Trump administration officials to testify, such as acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and former national security adviser John Bolton, in the belief that they know a lot about Trump´s dealings with Ukraine. Bolton has said he is willing to testify if subpoenaed.

The White House has said it expects the trial to be over in two weeks. Clinton's trial lasted five weeks.

McConnell has said he won't consider the witness issue until after the arguments and questioning take place, and his majority means he will likely prevail.

And as the Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) gets ready to be kicked off by Natasha Romanoff’s standalone prequel, Black Widow, Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Fiege gave his take on whether the mighty superheroes will come back for a cross-over film or not.

Speaking to MTV News, Feige revealed: “We debated what we should announce today. Should we announce four and five, we’ve got five years down the road.’ And I was like, ‘I think 11 projects in two years is plenty.”

Without solidifying anything, Feige did hint at a possibility of more Avengers films in the future.

“It will be a very different team than we’ve seen before [...] with some people you’ve already met and some people you haven’t met yet,” he said.

One question that hovered over everyone’s head post that was who could be joining the Avengers, now that the OG heroes like Iron Man, Captain America and Black Widow are no longer part of the clan.

As per speculations, Hawkeye’s daughter Kate Bishop who is ready to jump onboard the MCU team, could be part of the future of Young Avengers, including some other conjectural picks: Morgan Stark as Iron Heart, Harley Keener as Iron Lad and Cassie Lang as Stature.

Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston could 'hurt' Angelina Jolie who is miffed at his marriage joke?

The drama between Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston is only intensifying after the SAG Awards

The question hovering over the heads of all fans is why the love triangle of Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston is always stealing headlines even years after their respective splits?

And it looks like the drama between the three is only intensifying after the happenings of the SAG Awards that included Brad poking fun at his failed marriages, the Maleficent actor does not seem to be too amused.

An insider dished the dirt to The Sun saying Angelina was not pleased with Brad’s joke about ‘not getting along with his wife’, made during his acceptance speech.

It was further revealed that the spotlight thrown at him and his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston also miffed Angelina as she would get ‘hurt’ if the two ever get together.

"Brad’s very public reunion with Jen will also feel hurtful to her – it’s almost like, throughout their marriage, the public seemed to want Brad to get back with Jen,” said the grapevine.

"I think she’ll feel very disrespected by Brad’s speech. Angelina won’t be happy – it feels hugely disrespectful to her to make a joke out of their marriage problems in front of a room full of their peers. She’d never do that to him," it was revealed further.

For those of you living under a rock, unaware of the frenzy Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt unleashed during Sunday’s SAG Awards with their little reunion, here is what happened:

Accepting his award for Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Brad had left the audience in fits, saying: “Let's be honest, it was a difficult part. Guy who gets high, takes his shirt off, and doesn't get on with his wife?"

Meghan Markle happier than ever as she enjoys her post-Megxit freedom: See photos

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have left the British royal family in a major crisis but the two are definitely enjoying the freedom that has come following their exit.

The Duchess of Sussex’s latest photo making rounds on the internet is evidencing just that, as she carried eight-month-old Archie during an outing in Vancouver.

The beaming former Suits star looked chirpier and more content than ever as she carried Archie strapped to her chest while her canine pals, black Labrador Oz and beagle named Guy, joined her for the hike in Horth Hill Regional Park.

Meghan rocked a comfortable look during the happy and foggy hike as she donned black leggings and light matching jacket, finishing the look with a braid on her right side coming out of her green beanie.

Meghan’s priceless smile was unmissable as social media users pointed out how the 38-year-old is now enjoying her freedom after bidding adieu to her briefly-lived royal life.

Her happy outing comes after Prince Harry joined the mother-son duo in Canada after he had stayed back in London earlier, seeking approval for their exit from the family from his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, his father Prince Charles and brother Prince William.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle's financial qualms following royal exit

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle are leaving several questions about their finances unanswered // Photo: AP

Following their newly-forged agreement with Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hope their departure from the royal family will give them "financial independence".

The couple are giving up their taxpayer-funded income, maintaining some other revenue streams, while leaving several questions about their finances unanswered.

What is their income?

Harry and Meghan earned a small share of the Sovereign Grant, paid annually to Queen Elizabeth II to cover her and family members' official duties, as well as the upkeep of royal palaces.

The grant amounted to £82 million ($107 million, 96 million euros) for the 2018-2019 financial year.

It is not known how much is paid to each family member, but it is said to represent only five percent of the couple's income.

The remainder is allocated to them by Harry's father Prince Charles via the Duchy of Cornwall, a 53,000 hectare estate and financial portfolio granted to the heir to the throne.

It comprised assets of nearly £1 billion in 2018-2019, making a profit of over £20 million.

The Times newspaper reported that around £5 million per year is paid out to Charles' two sons, Harry and William.

What are Harry and Meghan giving up?

The couple will "no longer receive public funds for royal duties", according to a Buckingham Palace statement on Saturday.

It said they had also shared their wish to "repay Sovereign Grant expenditure for the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage, which will remain their UK family home".

The recent renovation cost British taxpayers £2.4 million.

But it remains unclear if Harry will continue to be so heavily subsidised by Prince Charles and the Duchy of Cornwall.

The Daily Telegraph reported Sunday that the Prince will continue to offer "private financial support" to his son and his wife.

But it said that was expected to come from his own private investment income rather than revenue generated by the duchy, and that this was not "an inexhaustible source of funds", according to a royal source.

What resources do they have?

Harry and Meghan will be free to earn their own money after giving up their royal titles and allowances.

This should present little problem to the photogenic and globally recognisable couple.

They have also retained their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which the pair could seek to build a brand around.

Meanwhile, Harry sits on an inheritance of tens of millions of pounds, from the death of his mother Diana and also left to him by his great-grandmother, according to the British press.

For her part, Meghan Markle previously earned hundreds of thousands of dollars when she was an actress, starring in the US TV series Suits, and running her blog The Tig.

Who will pay for their security?

Buckingham Palace said it would not comment on the details of security arrangements in its weekend statement, adding there were "well established independent processes to determine the need for publicly-funded security".

Harry and Meghan's VIP status entitles them to armed close protection by the British police, and any change to that would ultimately be sanctioned by Britain's interior ministry.

The subject has already become sensitive in Canada, where the couple plan to spend a large chunk of their time.

In a survey by the Angus Reid Institute, almost three-quarters of Canadians said they did not want their country to bear the costs of their protection.

Rock band Queen joins Queen Elizabeth on UK's commemorative coin

Britain’s Royal Mint has issued its first commemorative coin featuring a British rock group, Queen

Britain’s Royal Mint has issued its first commemorative coin featuring a British rock group, in a tribute to the late Freddie Mercury and the three other band members of Queen.

“This is a ‘who would’ve thought it’ moment. Here we have a coin of the realm, a five-pound coin in fact, made by The Royal Mint, in the customary fashion,” said Queen lead guitarist Brian May in a video clip, holding a one ounce silver proof coin.

“On one side we have The Queen (Elizabeth), on the other side we have Queen. This never happened before,” he said.

All British coins and banknotes bear the head of the monarch.

The coin, released on Monday, features the band’s logo and instruments played by the Queen members: the Bechstein grand piano played by Freddie Mercury for Bohemian Rhapsody, May’s Red Special guitar, Roger Taylor’s Ludwig bass drum with an early-day Queen crest and John Deacon’s Fender Precision Bass.

The coin’s designer Chris Facey also paid tribute to Bohemian Rhapsody, the band’s most celebrated hit, with the keys of the piano on the coin pressed down for the opening notes of the song, The Royal Mint said in a press release.

The commemorative coin is available in gold and silver proof, with prices varying from 13 pounds for a £5 Brilliant uncirculated coin cover to £2,100 for the one ounce gold proof coin.

The Queen coin is the first release in The Royal Mint’s upcoming Music Legends series.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth will 'always love each other'

Behind their bustling new, respective relationships, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth still miss each other dearly

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth may have moved on at lighting speed following their split but deep down, their feelings for each other still exist.

As per the latest intel on the two, the former flames may be happy with their respective partners — Liam with model Gabirella Brooks and Miley with Cody Simpson — but behind their PDA-filled, bustling new relationships, they still miss each other dearly.

A grapevine spilled to HollywoodLife about Liam’s new love interest and how he “truly is happier now,” but “misses Miley a lot.”

“He will always love her and she’ll always love him,” the insider revealed further, adding that: “They split because [Liam] realized as he got older and grew up, they weren’t having a traditional marriage and relationship and that was hard for him and it wasn’t working for Miley, either.”

“They both really wanted to live their lives differently. [Liam’s] family helped him take the step in divorce and has really supported him. They’re all very traditional and always felt Miley and her family were more out there. His parents never saw what he saw,” the source said.

The former couple after having an on-and-off relationship for over nine years, had tied the knot in December of 2018. However, their marriage couldn’t last longer than eight months as they parted ways in August last year.

Prince Harry leaves for Canada to reunite with Meghan Markle: report

LONDON: Britain's Prince Harry is believed to have  left  the United Kingdom for Canada on Monday evening, to be reunited with his wife Meghan Markle and his eight-month-old son Archie, The UK media  reported here.

Earlier on Monday, the prince had attended a summit for leaders of 21 African countries in London hosted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, a day after he spoke of his sadness that he would shortly be giving up royal duties.

The Duke also had a private, one-to-one meeting with Boris Johnson, understood to have been at the Prime Minister’s request.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are bowing out entirely from representing the British monarchy, in a crisis that has shaken the centuries-old institution.

Harry's departure for Canada will be deemed symbolic, coming just two days after Buckingham Palace announced that it was severing all official ties with the Sussexes.

On Sunday evening, the Duke gave an emotional speech at a charity dinner, revealing that he had never wanted to step so wholly away from his public duties but had been left with “no other option”.

SAG 2020: Iconic wins and best moments

The 26th edition of the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards had some of Hollywood’s beloved veterans and dynamic newcomers take home that gleaming trophy for performances in some of favorite shows and films of the year. This year’s SAG awards made history as Parasite became the first foreign-language movie to win SAG’s coveted best ensemble prize on Sunday night. This proved to be a step in the right direction for Hollywood as the awards industry has recently been under increased scrutiny for lack of diversity in its awards.

Last week, the Oscar’s nominations prompted a reemergence of the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag from 2016, and the BAFTA actors’ nominations did not include a single person of color.

Bong Joon Ho’s socioeconomic thriller Parasite pulled the rug out from under Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - a Quentin Tarantino classic with an all-star cast. It may be the beginnings of a revamp the film industry so desperately needs. Excluding the pleasant surprise win for the South-Korean drama, the film awards played out fairly predictably.

Joaquin Phoenix added yet another trophy to his shelf this awards season as the Joker star received the prize for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Film, beating out a familiar circle of Hollywood royalty including Leonardo DiCaprio and Adam Driver.

In his acceptance speech, Phoenix dedicated his win to much-adored fellow Joker actor, the late Heath Ledger whom Phoenix not only called his favorite actor, but someone “I’m standing here on the shoulders of.”

In the leading female actress category, Renee Zellweger predictably won for her Outstanding Performance in Rupert Goold’s Judy.

In addition to Judy Garland, the Bridget Jones’s Diary star thanked her former co-star Tom Cruise, who starred alongside her in the 1996 film Jerry Maguire for which she earned her first SAG award nomination for.

Big Little Lies star Laura Dern won Best Supporting Actress for her work in Marriage Story, making her the champion of this awards season.

Another anticipated victory on Sunday was Brad Pitt’s Supporting Actor trophy for Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The international heartthrob once again had people smitten with his witty acceptance speech in which he joked about his relationship status: “I’m going to add this to my Tinder profile.”

Pitt’s adored ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, also took home an emerald trophy last night for Outstanding Female Actor in a Drama Series for her work in Apple TV’s The Morning Show. But, the Internet was focused on something much more than the iconic ex-couple’s triumphs. The actors were photographed together backstage in a warm embrace that brought us right back to 2003. After their brief reunion, Pitt lingeringly gripped on to Aniston’s wrist as she attempted to head back into the celebrity-filled crowd. Let’s not get our hopes up, but could these obvious sparks lead to the celebrity super-couple rekindling? The ceremony was topped off with Netflix’s history of the British Royal family, The Crown being crowned as Best Drama Ensemble. Peter Dinklage, meanwhile, won Best Male Actor for the first time - after six nominations - for HBO’s fantasy-drama Game of Thrones.

Although SAG is the only televised awards of the four guilds representing actors, writers, directors and producers, it’s not the most reliable barometer in terms of predicting the Academy Awards. So, do this year’s SAG awards actually give us any insight into the potential victories at the Oscars? The nominations are in; now all there is to do is predict which of these gifted performers will take home that 24-karat gold-plated statuette next month

Usman Mukhtar gears up for his short film, Bench

Actor and director Usman Mukhtar made his television debut last year with drama serial Anaa alongside Hania Aamir, Shehzad Sheikh and Naimal Khawar. The actor received positive reviews for portraying Altamash in his first TV project and now he is all set to appear in two drama serials, slated to air in the coming months. We already know that Mukhtar will star alongside Sarah Khan in drama serial, Sabaat, which is directed by Shahzad Kashmiri, who also directed Anaa. However, as viewers, we’ll just have to wait to find out about his next television project.

The TV project, titled Bandhay Ek Dor Se, is produced under the banner of 7th Sky Entertainment while the script is penned by Faiza Iftikhar. Speaking of a love sequence, Ahsan revealed that a confusion between a young man and two women leads to a love triangle. “It is an interesting and situational story, which is not a typical family saga,” he added.
