Pakistan’s fastest man John Permal passes away at 72

KARACHI: John Permal, Pakistan’s fastest man from 1964 and 1974 passed away in Karachi, his son confirmed via Twitter on Wednesday.72-years-old Permal had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June 2018. He represented Pakistan at the 1972 Munich Olympics and the Asian Games in 1966 and 1970.Permal became Pakistan’s fastest man after finishing second in 1965 Lahore Games.His son Tony Khan tweeted this messaged to his followers, “John Permal, the fastest man in Pakistan had passed into the eternity of the Lord. His last race has been won. May his soul rest in peace. I love you Dad. Thank you for you.” Khan posted a series of tweets detailing his father’s life, his likes and habits, and his battle against cancer. According to his son, the doctors had given him only three weeks to live after he was diagnosed with cancer, but he battled the disease for 10 months.In 1968, Permal also won a gold medal for Sindh in 400 meters relay at National Games Dhaka. Khan also shared some memories from his father’s life. He said that he was a man who ‘couldn’t sit still’. He called his father ‘the healthiest man’ in their family.
